East Algarve Seniors Open

Tavira is one of the Eastern most towns on the Algarve close to the Spanish Border. Most golfing visitors to Tavira do so because it is home to the N0.1 course in Portugal – Monte Rei. The town itself may be quieter than the likes of Vilamoura but still has a wide variety of bars and restaurants including a couple of lively Irish bars

Our East Algarve Seniors Open is 54 holes (18 on each course) pairs better ball format. Included in the price is 4 nights accommodation ( based on 2 sharing a twin / double room) on a bed & breakfast board  basis and 3 rounds of golf. A group meal and prize giving is included on the final night. Shared return transfers are also included between Faro Airport and the Hotel and the Hotel and each Golf Course.

The Vila Gale Hotel in the center of Tavira consists of 268 spacious and comfortable rooms and suites, a restaurant, a bar, an outdoor pool, games room,  and large halls for meetings, incentives and other events. At the Health Club of this hotel in Tavira, relax in the indoor pool and in the Turkish bath, or enjoy the massage rooms to pamper your body. The wi-fi system is free of charge throughout the entire Vila Galé Tavira hotel.

Set in 1,000 acres in the Eastern Algarve, between the Serra do Caldeirão mountains and the Atlantic Ocean lies a haven of peace and tranquillity that is the jewel in the crown of Portugese Golf.  The Monte Rei Golf and Country Club.= – consistently voted the No.1 course in Portugal and without doubt a must play course on every golfers ‘bucket list’

Quinta da Ria and Quinta da Cima are 2 very good golf courses situated on the same property shared with an All Inclusive Resort – Robinson Club and are only around 15 minute transfer from Tavira.

Quinta da Ria is a PAR-72 with 18 holes where five lakes were strategically built to create natural course hazards in the game, providing irrigation and maintenance to the natural fauna and flora. Thousands of carob trees, olive and almond trees are contributing to the natural balancing of this course. Right from the start of the round you will be able to recognize the work and design of a world-renowned Golf Course Architect – Rocky Roquemore.  The idea of the architect was to create a challenging golf course, yet maintaining the original natural landscape with thousands of ancient olive and carob trees.  Over 100 strategically shaped bunkers, as well as undulating greens and artificial lakes were added to complement this layout.

From the first to the eighteenth hole, you will be challenged to use every club in your bag.  The biggest challenge is however, the 10th Hole (Signature Hole) with its 422m PAR 4 – Stroke Index 1. Game strategy is required from the tee to the green. We challenge you to cross over the large tree known as “Love Tree” and reach the green in two strokes! The back nine holes takes you back to the magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean. The setting is a unique combination of Nature and Golf.  Take some time to appreciate the huge variety of wild life that inhabits this area.

Quinta de Cima is the sister course to Quinta da Ria and it offers different and very unique characteristics:  wide fairways and well based bunkers, the several lake and streams which calls for a good deal of precision playing. The water hazards of the course and the long fairways emphasise the need for a good club selection, challenging even the most experienced players.

Designed by the well-known American Architect – Rocky Roquemore, Quinta de Cima was conceived as the championship course. The opening PAR 5 is a gentle start but the course will become tougher as the round progresses, with dog-legs to the right and left and undulating greens which are well protected by large sandy bunkers and lakes. There are also several natural creeks running through the course that will also increase its difficulty.

Throughout the course you will find many ancient carob and olive trees which add to the character of the layout. Orange groves and vineyards border many of the fairways making you feel that you are in the middle of an old Portuguese farm. The 16th hole (517 metres – PAR 4) is the Signature Hole of this championship course:  long hitters may be able to reach the green in two, but it may also lead to trouble as a large lake is lurking on the right-hand side of the green. The finishing 18th Hole is your last challenge as it requires an accurate drive and a precise approach shot to the green guarded by water.

Is there any Group Discount available ?

Yes – We have negotiated 1 free green fee in 16 at each of the golf courses for any groups of 16 or more that are booking on this tournament package.

What does Minimum Number on Trip mean ?

Obviously a lot of organisation and expense goes into each of our tournaments so in order for any one trip to be viable we require a minimum of 24 guests on the majority of our trips.

Our trips are very popular so very few fail to achieve this threshold so we encourage you to book early to ensure your place.

Here’s how it works –

We set a ‘cut off date’ for determining if we have sufficient numbers for the trip. This is 180 days prior to the start date of the trip. This is because our resort and golf partners have blocked out a substantial number of rooms and tee times and if we are not going to proceed they need the opportunity to resell these.

When you book you will only be required to pay a £30 per person holding deposit – this is fully refundable should the trip not proceed. If the trip is confirmed but you decide that you no longer wish to join us you would forfeit this deposit.

If we do unfortunately have to advise you that we have not achieved the minimum number required to allow the trip to proceed you will have the option of continuing with the trip, but in the knowledge that the tournament will not be included. You will still benefit from the discounted prices that we have negotiated and will receive a £60 per person discount on the tournament inclusive price.

At 180 days prior to the trip commencing, once we have met the minimum number required, guests are required to pay a further deposit of £150 per person to confirm your place within 7 days.

The balance is then payable usually 45 days prior to the trip commencing.

Once we have confirmed that we have achieved the minimum number required for the trip to proceed we may occasionally offer ‘incentives’ to fill the trip. Rest assured that anyone already booked will benefit from the same ‘incentive’

What if the trip is cancelled after I have paid ?

Given the impact of Covid 19 on travel arrangements recently we have amended our cancellation policy to cover cancellation due to Covid (or any other major pandemic event).

If the resort is closed for the planned duration of the trip guests would be entitled to a full refund.

If the resort remains open but guests are unable to travel due to travel restrictions imposed either by the UK government or the host country government guests will be offered a credit against future tournaments at the same resort.

If guests choose to cancel for any other reason sorry but this would be loss of all monies paid.

What about Bad Weather

We have tried our best to plan our tournament destinations around weather seasons. However obviously we cannot absolutely guarantee the weather.

Our golf course partners will do everything possible to ensure that they course is fit for play following any adverse weather. It will be at the sole discretion of the golf courses to determine if the course is fit for play.

Green fees are not refundable in the event of golf course closure due to adverse weather conditions, nor other unpredictable reasons. If play is suspended for the day a ‘rain check’ voucher will be issued as a credit against play on a future date.

It is completely at the tournament organisers discretion to amend the competition rules in the event of any adverse conditions. For example tournaments may be reduced to 18 or 36 holes if the course is closed for any period or ‘winter rules’ eg lift clean and place may be put in place.

Refunds cannot be issued for any other element of the trip unfortunately.

Can I book flights with Amatours ?

No sorry we do not book flights.

Most of our non UK tournaments are in destinations well served by ‘low cost’ airlines who do not pay agents a commission.

If we were to offer a flight booking service we would obviously require additional resources, licences and insurances and if we cannot cover the cost of these through commissions from the airlines we would have to pass these on in the price of our trips.

However one word of advice – as a very small number of our tournaments do not achieve the required minimum number of participants and therefore may be cancelled please do not book your flights until we have confirmed that we have achieved the prescribed minimum and that the tournament will be proceeding.

Whilst we do not book flights we do try to ensure that our guests do benefit from the very high numbers of passengers that enjoy our overseas trips each year and have negotiated special deals with our airline sponsors which you will be advised about at the time of booking.

What are the Prizes ?

We have negotiated a sponsorship package with each of our host resorts and golf courses which means that the first prize is the opportunity for the winning pair to ‘defend their title’ at the following year’s event.

In order to comply with R&A rule 3-2a winners will receive a voucher for the cost of the event or £500 per person, whichever is the lower. In order to protect our guests Amateur status there can be no cash alternative sorry.

There will also be prizes for the runners up, which may differ from tournament.

Each round there will be a voluntary Two’s pot. Again to comply with R&A rules this will be at the discretion of each player to determine if they want to participate in the Two’s pot. Those that do pay £10 / Euro10 on the first day to enter.
