The Druids Glen Course, is famous for hosting the Irish Open on four occasions – along with the prestigious Seve Trophy. Enjoy the tranquillity of the mystical Druids Glen, with manicured tree-lined fairways, historical landmarks, spectacular water features and vibrant floral displays. This famous course designed by Pat Ruddy & Tom Craddock, opened in 1995. Just a year after opening, Druids Glen hosted the Irish Open for four years in a row. Colin Montgomerie won two years running, followed by David Carter and Sergio Garcia, shooting a 64 in the final round. Druids Glen has hosted the prestigious Seve Trophy, a bi-annual event between the leading Tour Players of Britain & Ireland and Continental Europe.
Druids Heath once host to the Irish PGA Championship, is known as “nature’s gift to golf” weaving its way around quarries, trees, lakes and pot bunkers. Golfers can absorb the rare heathland course, the breath-taking setting, with views over the Irish Sea, on what was once the doorstep of the ancient Druids of Ireland. Venue for the 2006 Irish PGA Championship, Druids Heath has played host to many leading tour players including double US Open Champion Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke and Ian Poulter. There are few places in the world that encapsulate the true spirit of the game of golf like Druids Heath, the mountains, sea and rolling Irish countryside provide stunning vistas throughout your round. The sea breeze calls for shot-making skills and imagination from the golfer.
In the words of Pat Ruddy “Druids Heath affords the player the opportunity to stride-out in a place which is invigorating to both body and soul with the ever present sea breezes adding greatly to a sporting challenge, which is quite difficult to concentrate on as the eye wanders eagerly fifty miles out to sea, twenty miles southwards over an unspoiled, rolling pastoral scene to Wicklow Head and inland to the Wicklow Mountains. Dull would he be of soul who would allow a few stray shots spoil a day in such a blessed spot”.
As fabulous as the two Druids Glen Resort courses are Ireland is famous for its links courses and of course the weather that goes with them !. So here at Amatour we have teamed up with the fabulous private members Wicklow Golf Clu – just 20 minutes transfer from the Resort.
Wicklow Golf Club offers a truly unique and memorable golfing experience to enjoy while being surrounded by some of the most picturesque views you will find on any course. The winning combination of first-class golf, spectacular sea views on every hole and excellent club facilities separates Wicklow from other courses. One of the oldest golf clubs on the East Coast, Wicklow Golf Club was founded in 1904 and is an 18-hole cliff top course with outstanding and unique sea views hewn from the wild coastline of Wicklow. As you play, enjoy the spectacular views of the Wicklow Mountains and the magnificent coastline from the old Wicklow Head Lighthouse to the South and all of Wicklow Bay to the North. The course would be best described as; clifftop set, with parkland soil and a real links feel. Each hole offers a great challenge for golfers of every level. Measuring just over 6000 yards off our back tees, you don’t have to be a long hitter to post a great score here.
