Irish Seniors Open

With world-class courses in some of the most spectacular locations on the planet, Ireland’s credentials are sky-high when it comes to golf. The island boasts a quarter of the world’s natural links courses and many of the world’s best golfers hail from this fair isle, including Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Darren Clarke, Graeme McDowell, Paul McGinley and Padraig Harrington.

Our Irish Seniors Open is 54 holes pairs better ball format. Included in the price is 3 nights accommodation ( based on 2 sharing a twin / double room) on a bed & breakfast board basis and 3 rounds of golf. A group meal and prize giving is included on the final night.

The 5 star Druids Glen Hotel & Golf Resort is home to our Amatour Irish tournaments, nature and luxury meet to create a memorable escape. Nestled in 360 acres of countryside between the Wicklow Mountains and the Irish Sea, yet only thirty minutes from Dublin, Druids Glen provides a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  Druids Glen Hotel & Golf Resort features 145 spacious guestrooms and suites, eight conference and event spaces, dining options to include Hugo’s Restaurant, the Garden Rooms and Bar, Sycamore Lounge along with a Spa, Health Club and two championship golf courses, Druids Glen and Druids Heath. Experience the authentic Irish hospitality while you soak up the wonderful surroundings, settle into the pace of life and enjoy the warm, attentive service from the expert team.

The Druids Glen Course, is famous for hosting the Irish Open on four occasions – along with the prestigious Seve Trophy. Enjoy the tranquillity of the mystical Druids Glen, with manicured tree-lined fairways, historical landmarks, spectacular water features and vibrant floral displays. This famous course designed by Pat Ruddy & Tom Craddock, opened in 1995. Just a year after opening, Druids Glen hosted the Irish Open for four years in a row. Colin Montgomerie won two years running, followed by David Carter and Sergio Garcia, shooting a 64 in the final round. Druids Glen has hosted the prestigious Seve Trophy, a bi-annual event between the leading Tour Players of Britain & Ireland and Continental Europe.

Druids Heath once host to the Irish PGA Championship, is known as “nature’s gift to golf” weaving its way around quarries, trees, lakes and pot bunkers. Golfers can absorb the rare heathland course, the breath-taking setting, with views over the Irish Sea, on what was once the doorstep of the ancient Druids of Ireland. Venue for the 2006 Irish PGA Championship, Druids Heath has played host to many leading tour players including double US Open Champion Retief Goosen, Sergio Garcia, Darren Clarke and Ian Poulter. There are few places in the world that encapsulate the true spirit of the game of golf like Druids Heath, the mountains, sea and rolling Irish countryside provide stunning vistas throughout your round.  The sea breeze calls for shot-making skills and imagination from the golfer.

In the words of Pat Ruddy “Druids Heath affords the player the opportunity to stride-out in a place which is invigorating to both body and soul with the ever present sea breezes adding greatly to a sporting challenge, which is quite difficult to concentrate on as the eye wanders eagerly fifty miles out to sea, twenty miles southwards over an unspoiled, rolling pastoral scene to Wicklow Head and inland to the Wicklow Mountains.  Dull would he be of soul who would allow a few stray shots spoil a day in such a blessed spot”.

As fabulous as the two Druids Glen Resort courses are Ireland is famous for its links courses and of course the weather that goes with them !. So here at Amatour we have teamed up with the fabulous private members Wicklow Golf Clu – just 20 minutes transfer from the Resort.

Wicklow Golf Club offers a truly unique and memorable golfing experience to enjoy while being surrounded by some of the most picturesque views you will find on any course. The winning combination of first-class golf, spectacular sea views on every hole and excellent club facilities separates Wicklow from other courses. One of the oldest golf clubs on the East Coast, Wicklow Golf Club was founded in 1904 and is an 18-hole cliff top course with outstanding and unique sea views hewn from the wild coastline of Wicklow. As you play, enjoy the spectacular views of the Wicklow Mountains and the magnificent coastline from the old Wicklow Head Lighthouse to the South and all of Wicklow Bay to the North. The course would be best described as; clifftop set, with parkland soil and a real links feel. Each hole offers a great challenge for golfers of every level. Measuring just over 6000 yards off our back tees, you don’t have to be a long hitter to post a great score here. This is a course that teaches you something every time, hopefully bringing you back again and again to this beautiful coastal challenge.

What does Minimum Number on Trip mean ?

Obviously a lot of organisation and expense goes into each of our tournaments so in order for any one trip to be viable we require a minimum of 24 guests on the majority of our trips.

Our trips are very popular so very few fail to achieve this threshold so we encourage you to book early to ensure your place.

Here’s how it works –

We set a ‘cut off date’ for determining if we have sufficient numbers for the trip. This is 180 days prior to the start date of the trip. This is because our resort and golf partners have blocked out a substantial number of rooms and tee times and if we are not going to proceed they need the opportunity to resell these.

When you book you will only be required to pay a £30 per person holding deposit – this is fully refundable should the trip not proceed. If the trip is confirmed but you decide that you no longer wish to join us you would forfeit this deposit.

If we do unfortunately have to advise you that we have not achieved the minimum number required to allow the trip to proceed you will have the option of continuing with the trip, but in the knowledge that the tournament will not be included. You will still benefit from the discounted prices that we have negotiated and will receive a £60 per person discount on the tournament inclusive price.

At 180 days prior to the trip commencing, once we have met the minimum number required, guests are required to pay a further deposit of £150 per person to confirm your place within 7 days.

The balance is then payable usually 45 days prior to the trip commencing.

Once we have confirmed that we have achieved the minimum number required for the trip to proceed we may occasionally offer ‘incentives’ to fill the trip. Rest assured that anyone already booked will benefit from the same ‘incentive’

What if the trip is cancelled after I have paid ?

Given the impact of Covid 19 on travel arrangements recently we have amended our cancellation policy to cover cancellation due to Covid (or any other major pandemic event).

If the resort is closed for the planned duration of the trip guests would be entitled to a full refund.

If the resort remains open but guests are unable to travel due to travel restrictions imposed either by the UK government or the host country government guests will be offered a credit against future tournaments at the same resort.

If guests choose to cancel for any other reason sorry but this would be loss of all monies paid.

What about Bad Weather

We have tried our best to plan our tournament destinations around weather seasons. However obviously we cannot absolutely guarantee the weather.

Our golf course partners will do everything possible to ensure that they course is fit for play following any adverse weather. It will be at the sole discretion of the golf courses to determine if the course is fit for play.

Green fees are not refundable in the event of golf course closure due to adverse weather conditions, nor other unpredictable reasons. If play is suspended for the day a ‘rain check’ voucher will be issued as a credit against play on a future date.

It is completely at the tournament organisers discretion to amend the competition rules in the event of any adverse conditions. For example tournaments may be reduced to 18 or 36 holes if the course is closed for any period or ‘winter rules’ eg lift clean and place may be put in place.

Refunds cannot be issued for any other element of the trip unfortunately.

What are the Prizes ?

We have negotiated a sponsorship package with each of our host resorts and golf courses which means that the first prize is the opportunity for the winning pair to ‘defend their title’ at the following year’s event.

In order to comply with R&A rule 3-2a winners will receive a voucher for the cost of the event or £500 per person, whichever is the lower. In order to protect our guests Amateur status there can be no cash alternative sorry.

There will also be prizes for the runners up, which may differ from tournament.

Each round there will be a voluntary Two’s pot. Again to comply with R&A rules this will be at the discretion of each player to determine if they want to participate in the Two’s pot. Those that do pay £10 / Euro10 on the first day to enter.
