Scottish Seniors Open

The Home of Golf – nowhere else is quite the same once you have played golf in Scotland. We have selected a real treat as the venue for our Scottish swing in 2022 – Carnoustie. With 3 golf courses, including the Open Championship course, and a hotel right on the first tee it Carnoustie is one of our favourite destinations. For our UK guests most will drive to Scotland but there is a rail station in the town and it is about a 1 1/2 hour transfer from Edinburgh Airport.

Our Scottish Seniors Open is 54 holes pairs better ball format. Included in the price is 4 nights accommodation ( based on 2 sharing a twin / double room) on a bed & breakfast board basis and 3 rounds of golf. A group meal and prize giving is included on the final night.

Situated on the edge of the Carnoustie Golf Links Championship Course, the Carnoustie Golf Hotel is less than 200 yards from the sandy beach. A heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym are all available in the leisure centre. The Burnside Course and the Budden Links are also within the Carnoustie Golf Glub. Carnoustie Rail Station is a 5-minute walk away and Dundee Riverside Airport is 30 minutes’ drive away. Local produce is served in the Calders Bistro, which has views across the golf course. Guests can relax with a drink in the Carnoustie Golf Hotel’s casual Calders Lounge or enjoy the views on the terraced seating area. Rooms are spacious and include tea and coffee making facilities and a private bathroom. Some rooms feature sea views.

The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships, one Women’s British Open and two Seniors Open making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. The AIG Women’s British Open is scheduled to return to Carnoustie, for the second time, in July 2021. It is one of the three courses used for the annual Dunhill Links, the others being Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews and in 2018 The Open Championship returned to the course. In 2018, the Championship Course was voted Best Golf Course in Scotland over £100 by the general public, the second time it has won the award in the past three years.

The Burnside oozes character and from the back tees is a splendid test of golf. Many of the short holes could grace the top links courses around with the 5th and 14th in particular providing dramatic challenges for the player who strives to gain their par 3. The finish is also strong with the 17th proving to be one of the hardest par 4’s that can be found anywhere in golf and many a score has been ruined by the out of bounds fence at the 18th. It was on this course in 1953 where the great Ben Hogan shot 70 in order to qualify for the Open Championship which he subsequently won.

The Carnoustie Buddon Course opened for play as an 18 hole course back in 1981 when Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss designed the original course on former Ministry of Defence land. All the holes are named after battles as recognition to the military, who have been good neighbours to Carnoustie since the 1830’S. On the seaward side of the course you will see one of the most important army training areas in the whole of Britain. The Carnoustie Buddon Links is a fantastic test of golf with great natural beauty. It starts and finishes as a links course with several holes in the middle of the round tree-lined. Boasting attractive lakes rich with local wildlife especially on the 11th hole, this course consistently creates a great experience for all golfers.

What does Minimum Number on Trip mean ?

Obviously a lot of organisation and expense goes into each of our tournaments so in order for any one trip to be viable we require a minimum of 24 guests on the majority of our trips.

Our trips are very popular so very few fail to achieve this threshold so we encourage you to book early to ensure your place.

Here’s how it works –

We set a ‘cut off date’ for determining if we have sufficient numbers for the trip. This is 180 days prior to the start date of the trip. This is because our resort and golf partners have blocked out a substantial number of rooms and tee times and if we are not going to proceed they need the opportunity to resell these.

When you book you will only be required to pay a £30 per person holding deposit – this is fully refundable should the trip not proceed. If the trip is confirmed but you decide that you no longer wish to join us you would forfeit this deposit.

If we do unfortunately have to advise you that we have not achieved the minimum number required to allow the trip to proceed you will have the option of continuing with the trip, but in the knowledge that the tournament will not be included. You will still benefit from the discounted prices that we have negotiated and will receive a £60 per person discount on the tournament inclusive price.

At 180 days prior to the trip commencing, once we have met the minimum number required, guests are required to pay a further deposit of £150 per person to confirm your place within 7 days.

The balance is then payable usually 45 days prior to the trip commencing.

Once we have confirmed that we have achieved the minimum number required for the trip to proceed we may occasionally offer ‘incentives’ to fill the trip. Rest assured that anyone already booked will benefit from the same ‘incentive’

What if the trip is cancelled after I have paid ?

Given the impact of Covid 19 on travel arrangements recently we have amended our cancellation policy to cover cancellation due to Covid (or any other major pandemic event).

If the resort is closed for the planned duration of the trip guests would be entitled to a full refund.

If the resort remains open but guests are unable to travel due to travel restrictions imposed either by the UK government or the host country government guests will be offered a credit against future tournaments at the same resort.

If guests choose to cancel for any other reason sorry but this would be loss of all monies paid.

What about Bad Weather

We have tried our best to plan our tournament destinations around weather seasons. However obviously we cannot absolutely guarantee the weather.

Our golf course partners will do everything possible to ensure that they course is fit for play following any adverse weather. It will be at the sole discretion of the golf courses to determine if the course is fit for play.

Green fees are not refundable in the event of golf course closure due to adverse weather conditions, nor other unpredictable reasons. If play is suspended for the day a ‘rain check’ voucher will be issued as a credit against play on a future date.

It is completely at the tournament organisers discretion to amend the competition rules in the event of any adverse conditions. For example tournaments may be reduced to 18 or 36 holes if the course is closed for any period or ‘winter rules’ eg lift clean and place may be put in place.

Refunds cannot be issued for any other element of the trip unfortunately.

What are the Prizes ?

We have negotiated a sponsorship package with each of our host resorts and golf courses which means that the first prize is the opportunity for the winning pair to ‘defend their title’ at the following year’s event.

In order to comply with R&A rule 3-2a winners will receive a voucher for the cost of the event or £500 per person, whichever is the lower. In order to protect our guests Amateur status there can be no cash alternative sorry.

There will also be prizes for the runners up, which may differ from tournament.

Each round there will be a voluntary Two’s pot. Again to comply with R&A rules this will be at the discretion of each player to determine if they want to participate in the Two’s pot. Those that do pay £10 / Euro10 on the first day to enter.

Available Extras
